Happy Miserable Chinese New Year

still not too late to wish everyone happy new year bah… what better things to talk about now then about events at CNY. its only once a year… this CNY is really the most unregulated one I’ve ever had so far in my life. and it all boils down to the fact that my final exams are just a few days later.

because of the exams, I got the excuse to stay at home and not go visiting. studies aside, this is rather good news for me. I believe every family has its share of black sheep, and what I mean by black sheep here are actually people you don’t really want to meet, much less to tolerate their mindless comments.

not everyone might share my experiences, but more or less there should be a relative that you will dislike. I’m not promoting family violence or anti-socialism here but yeah it happens to me every single year. and basically most of my not-so-immediate relatives can be broken down into two categories: the past and the future

  • Past

what I’d like to call the relatives from the past. every year I meet them again I have to give them a current report on what I am “CURRENTLY” doing, or else they won’t have a clue about it. For example:

Relative: “Boy ah, you just had your O levels is it? how ah? go JC or Poly?”

Me: “Err… no I’m in my last year of poly”

Relative: ” wah so fast ah? last year see you still in secondary school leh… haha”

let me inform you that it is humanely impossible to proceed from secondary 4 to the final year in poly within 365 days.. so give some thought before you speak up, its not like I look like a secondary school student anyway..

  • Future

and of course not forgetting the ‘future’ relatives, who always seem to be thinking that I possess the ability of time travelling…

Relative: “Hey! go army already right? how? enjoy?”

Me: “What!?!?”

Relative: “Eh… you’re in army already right?”

Me: “of course not you moron” “haha.. no lah I’m still in poly studying”

to both groups of relatives, why can’t you accept that I am travelling along the same timeline as the rest of you? I think its sickening to ask the same questions every year, and of course I am sick of listening to those questions every year. so in a way, yes the exams are good for something after all.

————————-

bad people aside, I can’t ignore the presence of the good relatives. so thankful that I have a bunch of wonderful cousins and uncles/aunties that actually makes CNY something to look forward to despite all the other negative factors.

I will be going to my favourite auntie’s house tomorrow night where all of us will gather there and we will cook up a feast to celebrate, and that is the only house I will go visiting this year, cos that is where I can actually have fun and not worry about hearing any mindless comments.

before I end, wanna wish all my family and good relatives and friends:

恭喜发财 , 万事如意 , 身体健康!

Happy New Year!!!
